Hebron Pen Pals
The Hebrew School has arranged pen pals with Jewish Children from Hebron. Hebron, located 32 km. south of Jerusalem in the Judean hills, is the site of the oldest Jewish community in the world, which dates back to Biblical times. The Book of Genesis relates that Abraham purchased the field where the Tomb of the Patriarchs is located as a burial place for his wife Sarah. According to Jewish tradition, the Patriarchs Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, and the Matriarchs Sarah, Rebecca, and Leah are buried in the Tomb.
This week our children were assigned to write letters to Jewish children in Hebron to begin their pen pal project. In the spring, we are hoping to organize a video conference in our newly refurbished library between the children of the Ohav Sholom Hebrew School and their pens, the Jewish children in Hebron. Stay tuned for more developments as the year progresses.
