Volume 6 Ohav Sholom Hebrew School 145 S. Merrick Avenue Merrick, NY 1/8/06

Welcome Back! I hope you all had a fun-filled winter break. Our Chanukah celebration on December 18, 2005 was a lot of fun. The children made boxes for which to store their Chanukah candles. Each one was beautiful and unique. We had a lot of fun painting, gluing, glittering, dancing and of course eating! Ohav Sholom also hosted a Chanukah party on December 19th for children ages 3-6. The turnout at this party was tremendous! Rabbi Wohlberg read the children a Chanukah story and lit the menorah. After the Rabbi spoke, we were entertained by Laugh and Sing with Bruce. There was pizza, juice, dreidels and chocolate gelt and it was all FREE! This party was open to all members of the community not only Ohav members. So if you have children between the ages of 3-6 make sure to look out for our next big party on Purim!

The book fair was a nice success. It would not have been such a success without the help of those parents who volunteered their time to help set up and run the book fair. Thank you. I’d like to also thank those families who generously donated a book to our Hebrew School Library. Thank you to: Erika & Gary Ehrlich - "Rainbow Candles", Marc & Lisa Fessler - "Jewish Americans", Brian & Fran Green - "The Ten Plagues of Egypt" and Yuri & Mary Sikarevich - "All of a Kind Family". Please feel free to browse in our library and borrow any books. If you are cleaning out and find some books of Judaic content that you would like to “get rid of”, please keep our library in mind!

Don’t forget about JEP! Anyone from 2nd grade on up can attend JEP which meets on Wednesday nights immediately following Hebrew School. Pizza is $1.50 a slice and the fun and learning is free! We’d like to remind you to confirm with the office that JEP is scheduled for that night before leaving your child until 7:15pm! Please note that there will NOT be JEP on January 25th.

I hope you all know that whether you are or aren’t a member of Congregation Ohav Sholom, we encourage you and welcome you with open arms to partake in our many activities. Save the date! January 25 at 6:15 PM Sisterhood is sponsoring a Family Yoga night at Ohav. The class will be run by Sandie Oppenheimer of Sandie's Yoga for Kids www.sandiesyogaforkids.com
